Two scholarship opportunities are available through a gift from Camilla Ritchey and the Brighter Sky Foundation. Cammy is the Director and President at The Brighter Sky Foundation, a non-profit organization in Texas helping young females. Cammy “Ran the Gap” with us in 2011, and even made a stop earlier that year to train on the course (and to get out of the Texas heat). I, Mike Calley Race Director for Pocatello Marathon, enjoyed our training run time together. We REALLY appreciated the ice cold water stations provided by Lowell Hawkes that day! We shared many a story, and even how we volunteered to various organizations which provide young adults an opportunity to receive a college education. Cammy made her mark on the Pocatello Marathon with $3,000 scholarships awarded to two young females; Clair Chow (21) in 2011 finishing with a 4:12:54 and Kaitlyn Vance (20) in 2012 finishing with a 4:04:33. Cammy’s mark is even on the course route name – Cammy’s Connection right between Cheop’s Corner and the Portneuf Gap. Cammy is providing another scholarship opportunity for the 2013 Pocatello Marathon, but with a slight twist and financial assistance for two young females. Details of the two opportunities and eligibility are provided below. Run with you soon!
$2,500 scholarship awarded to the first female finisher (based on gun time, NOT chip time) in the marathon that meets eligibility requirements (see eligibility requirements below) and then a $500 scholarship awarded to one of the other eligible females that completes the marathon.
Eligibility Requirements: Female participant must be at least a senior in high school for the year the scholarship is awarded or must be enrolled as an undergraduate freshman, sophomore or junior at a four year college or university in the United States. Female participant must be 26 or younger on event date. Previous winners are not eligible to win the scholarship a second time. The 2013 overall winner ($2,500) is not eligible to win the random drawing ($500). If only one eligible female finishes the marathon, one scholarship of $3,000 will be awarded.
Eligible females must self identify by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line "SCHOLARSHIP" by Wednesday, August 28, stating their age, the college or university for which they are enrolled, and then state that they are an undergraduate freshman, sophomore or junior at a four year college or university in the United States. Self identified females meeting the requirements will receive an email reply within 7 days (unless their email is sent after August 23, then they will receive notification by 6:00 pm August 30), stating that they are included for the scholarship opportunity. The two scholarship awards will be presented at the awards ceremony on race day.
The Sports Committee Inc will ensure the recipient meets the following conditions of eligibility;
a. Must be a female
b. Must be at least a senior in high school for the year the scholarship is awarded or must be enrolled as an undergraduate freshman, sophomore or junior at a four year college or university in the United States.
c. d. If a high school female is the recipient, funds will be held by The Sports Committee until proof of enrollment and tuition at a college or university are provided to the Sports Committee by the recipient. Funds will be held for up to two years from the awarded event date. The funds will be returned to Camilla Ritchey and the Brighter Sky Foundation if the recipient does not provided proof of enrollment and tuition at a college or university by two years following the event award date.
e. The recipient must also provide documentation that they are not currently a NCAA scholarship student-athlete, or that they are not currently being recruited by any NCAA college or university as a student-athlete.
f. If this condition occurs, the award recipient may also be the random drawing winner.
g. If no eligible recipient participates in any given year, the scholarship funds will be held or awarded as directed by Camilla Ritchey and The Brighter Sky Foundation.
h. Any recipient of the scholarship in any particular year is not eligible to win the award a second time.
